Assam Manipuri Progressive Front christened as National Manipuri Progressive Front

Assam Manipuri Progressive Front, a pioneer Manipuri Organisation of Assam will now be known as National Manipuri Progressive Front.
In a general meeting held at Silchar chaired by RK Sanatomba, the House unanimously resolved to change the name as National Manipuri Progressive Front.
The house unanimously constituted an executive committee comprising 31 eminent personalities across the country. Notably, I S Thingom has been appointed president, Dr Maimom Santi Kumar Singha as working president, Karam Punshi as vice president, Thokchom Manikumar as general secretary and Okram Lakhikanta Singha as secretary, said a statement by the  working president.
In addition, an Advisory Committee has also been formed with Professor N Mohendra Singha (Manipur); L Tarani Kanta Singha (Guwahati); R K Tarunjit Singha (Tripura); K Langamba Meetei (Manipur); S Tarun Kumar Singha (Pune); W Brajabashi; RK Sanatomba and Kh Biswanath among others as key members.
Dr M Santi Kumar Singha, working president of the Front while speaking at the occasion, expressed concern on the ongoing tension in Jiribam district of Manipur bordering Assam .
He appreciated the prompt actions taken by Assam IGP Basanta Kumar Bhuiya to make Barak Valley region of Assam a peaceful zone.
Addressing the gathering, I S Thingom stressed on the need of an alternative road connectivity of Silchar and Guwahati owing to repeated landslides leading to cancellation of trains, buses etc along this route.
The landslides and cancellation of trains is a major cause of price hike of essential commodities causing inconveniences to the people of the region, he said.
Speaking at the occasion, Manikumar Thokchom, general secretary of the Front addressed the issues on unity and prosperity of Manipuri living across the country.
The house further resolved to work on socio-cultural and economic upliftment of Manipuris residing in different parts of the country.
