State celebrates International Yoga Day

Imphal, Jun 21 (DIPR): Chief Minister N Biren Singh has reiterated India's statement at the recent United Nations Human Rights Council meeting whereby it termed increased influx of people from Myanmar and transnational crimes such as drug and human trafficking as an "area of grave concern". 
He made the statement while attending the 10th edition of International Yoga Day under the theme "Yoga for self and society" as the chief guest at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium, Imphal today.
Stating that yoga is a gift to the world from India, the Chief Minister added that the United Nations gave approval to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 every year from 2015 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly.
The Chief Minister also said that the Government will promote and spread awareness about the benefits of millets among the public.
Cabinet Ministers, MP (Rajya Sabha) Maharajah Leishemba Sanajaoba, MLAs, students and officials of YAS attended the function. Governor Uikey practiced yoga asanas with officers, staff and security personnel at Raj Bhavan this morning, according to a statement issued by the Governor's Secretariat.
