IMPHAL, Apr 6: Showing solidarity with people who have lost homes and members of their families, Nupi Khunnai Meira Paibi Apunba, Heirangoithong has vowed not to participate in the Lok Sabha elections on April 19.
At Manipur Press Club, Imphal today, the Meira Paibi Lup's advisor, P Sashimukhi said thousands of people have been made homeless by the current conflict and are taking shelter in relief camps.
"The conflict which started on May 3, 2023 has forcefully displaced thousands of Meiteis from Churachandpur, Moreh, Torbung and other areas.  Their houses have been burnt and they are now seeking shelter at relief camps.
We can't participate in the elections when people are suffering in the relief camps," she said.
Notably, many women organisations/Meira Paibis and displaced people in relief camps have vowed to stay away from the Lok Sabha elections.
Displaced people at Kakching Khunou relief camps had recently stated that they would not vote in the elections unless they are allowed to return home to their villages.
Manipur will vote in two phases.
Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency and some segments of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency will vote on April 19.
Remaining segments of the Outer Manipur Constituency will vote on April 26.
