NEIFF 2024 concludes ‘Rapture’ wins big with best film title

IMPHAL, Mar 7 : ‘Rapture’ directed by Dominic Sangma bagged the Best Film Award while Haobam Paban Kumar was named Best Director for ‘Joseph’s Son’ at the conclusion of the North East India Film Festival (NEIFF 2024) today.
The 5-day film festival which began on March 3 came to a close at Palace Auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Imphal today.
NEIFF 2024 was organised by THOUNA, Manipur in association with Film Forum Manipur, Directorate of Information & Public Relations and Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur under the sponsorship of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India.
A total of eight films directed by filmmakers from the North East, including Manipur, competed in the film festival.
Notably, Parthajit Baruah bagged Best Screenplay for ‘Nellier Kotha’, Jayant Sethu Mathavan was awarded Best Cinematography for the film ‘Before Spring’, Kuldip Baruah  bagged Best Editing for ‘Samarpan’ and Best Sound Award was given to Amrit Pritam and Debajit Changmai for ‘Gorai Pakhri’.
Meanwhile, Assamese films ‘Before Spring’ directed by Shrutismriti Changkakoti and ‘Ata Nirjon Duporiya’ directed by Khanjan Kishore Nath bagged the Special Jury Award and the Special Mention Award respectively.
Guru Rewben Mashangva was bestowed the Jury Award for Outstanding Performance for his performance in the film ‘Joseph’s Son’.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, M Joy Singh, Commissioner, IPR, said that the festival has been a journey into the hearts of human experience where filmmakers from diverse backgrounds of North East India shared their unique perspective and creativeness transcending boundaries.
While appreciating the efforts of the organizers, he thanked the participating film makers who have delighted the public with their well-crafted cinematic expressions. He further added that the films that were screened during the 5-day festival have not only entertained but also stirred the souls and left an indelible mark in the minds of the audience.
M Joy also expressed his desire that the influence of films continue to resonate within everyone, fostering dialogues and commitment, to embrace people's diversity. He also congratulated the award winners and all the participating film makers in making the festival a success.
