Ukhrul, Mar 14: The District Election Officer/Deputy Commissioner (DEO/DC) of Ukhrul Kengoo Zuringla elaborated on the detailed plans that have been formulated to ensure a peaceful and fair conduct of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections 2024 in Ukhrul district as per Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines.
The DC was speaking in an interaction programme held today in connection with the poll preparedness in the district.
According to her, all necessary arrangements are in place including manpower requisition, transportation and security arrangements and verification of defective and functional Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
She further mentioned that Assured Minimum Facility (AMF) in all polling stations of 44-Ukhrul and 45- Chingai are completed.
The district needs 325 vehicles during the election time for transporting the polling team and other duty personnel and has informed all police stations concerned to initiate requisition of vehicles.
A separate District Level Vehicle Management Committee has been instituted by appointing one nodal officer, she said.
She also urged the vehicle owners and vehicles association to co-operate with the committee.
The DC went on to inform that as a part of the election awareness campaign for ensuring maximum voters' participation, five persons including one person with disability (PwD) have been appointed as Ukhrul District Icon.
She maintained that review meetings are being held with the election nodal officers to monitor progress and address any shortcomings for free and fair conduct of election and informed that 16 Nodal Officers and 18 Sector Officers have been appointed for Ukhrul district.
Regarding the security arrangements, the DC informed that two BSF companies have already arrived in the district and are deployed for guarding the warehouse and area domination of the town.
The issues and challenges posed by the terrain, intermittent power supply and communication facilities need to be sorted, she added.
The DC further stated that once the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is implemented, Flying Squad Team (FST) is ready for immediate execution of their 24 hours duty to ensure the imposition of the MCC in the district.
Besides, the District Election Office has opened Voters' Facilitation Centre at DC's office complex and constant electoral updating is going on in the office to ensure that no person is deprived of their franchise rights, she said.
