IMPHAL, Mar 11: Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned Rs 404.719 crore for construction of 56 roads in Manipur under PMGSY-3.
Speaking to media persons at his Old Secretariat office chamber today, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Yumnam Khemchand said that the Ministry of Rural Development sanctioned Rs 404.719 crore on March 7.
He said that development works must go on inspite of the restive situation seen in the State since the past several months.
The total length of roads which would be constructed under PMGSY-3, phase-1 is 502.235 Kms. These roads should have several facilities such as bus stands, administrative centres and access to banks and fuel stations, Khemchand said.
Necessary fund for construction of 310 roads under PMGSY-3, phase-2 is also expected to be sanctioned soon. These roads would have 20 long bridges, he said.
Construction of roads under PMGSY-1 and PMGSY-2 was done with ordinary bitumen layer. However under PMGSY-3, roads would be constructed based on CTVM and the WBM layer would have cement content before the roads are topped with a bitumen layer of thickness one inch, said the RD&PR Minister.
He also thanked the Union Government for granting a substantial share of the development funds to Manipur amidst the multiple problems besieging the State.
He said that the Centre sanctioned the PMGSY fund  following  a lot of efforts put in by Chief Minister N Biren.
