Ukhrul, Feb 8: Deputy Commissioner Ukhrul Kengoo Zuringla inaugurated the 35th National Road Safety Month observance for Ukhrul district, at the DRDA conference Mini Secretariat Office complex Hamleikhong.
Today's awareness cum observance programme was jointly organised by the District Administration, Superintendent of Police Ukhrul and the District Transport Officer under the theme "Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha" (Road Safety Life Safety).
Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted that the main objective of observing the National Road Safety Month is to create social awareness to ensure road safety for all.
She emphasized on how to prevent road accidents by strict adherence to traffic rules for the benefit of all.
Meanwhile Additional SP Ukhrul Ringthing Hongchui enlightened on golden rules for road safety such as wearing helmets and seat belts while driving.
He mentioned that maximum deaths are caused by head injuries but wearing helmets and seatbelts will prevent road fatalities thereby saving many precious lives.
Talking on phone while driving distracts the driver and is another major cause for road accidents, he said.
An input of road accidents that were uploaded in Integrated Road Accident Database (IRAB) of Ukhrul district was also presented during the programme.
The Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul administered the public pledge on road safety.
Quiz competitions were also held as a part of the programme attended by District Level Officers (DLOs), police officers, teachers and students of Ukhrul town.
It is worth noting that National Road Safety Month is being observed under the Ministry of Highways and Transport with the aim of spreading awareness amongst traffic rule violators and preventing occurrence of any road accidents.
