Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Jiribam observes 51st foundation day

JIRIBAM, Feb 28: The Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Jiribam Manipur (MSPJM) observed its 51st foundation day at the office of Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL) located at Babupara, Jiribam today.
 The ceremony was graced by Senjam Janaki Devi, Adhyaksha, Jiribam Zila Parishad; Tha Panthoi, president, Manipur Sahitya Parishad Jiribam, Manipur and social worker N Budhachandra Singh as the chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
As a part of the event, the Moirangthem Churamohon Memorial Literary Award was conferred to S Khogendra Singh from Babupara under Jiribam district while the Thokchom Doyanidhi Memorial Nata Sankirtana Award was given to L Monohar Singh from Dibong Khunou, Jiribam. The 51st edition of "Jiri Leikol" was also released to commemorate the 51st foundation day of MSPJM.
In addition, two books, namely, Sarat Thokchom's "Ayingbadasu Asabadasu" and Moirangthem Seitabati's "Meiridugi Meisalakta" were also released on the occasion.  
Speaking as the guest of honour, N Budhachandra highlighted the youth's dwindling interest in literature and expressed hope for increased enthusiasm and progress in the field of literature.
Meanwhile, Kh Janaki Devi spoke about the importance of literature while adding that a society cannot develop without literature.
A nation's progress depends on the level of its literature to an extent, opined Tha Panthoi. In the afternoon, a poetry reading session was held, moderated by Dr KN Chand, Member, Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi and Thokchom Biswanath, former Member, Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.
