National Road Safety Month 2024 observed

IMPHAL, Feb 13
The District Administration, Imphal West observed the 35th National Road Safety Month, 2024 today from 11 am onwards in collaboration with Additional SP Traffic Control Police Wing, Manipur and Additional SP Traffic Control Police Wing, Manipur.
According to a press note issued by Dr N Johnson Meetei, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Imphal West, road safety awareness programmes were carried out at MST Gate, Moirangkhom and at Tiddim Road near Imphal College with the distribution of pamphlets, notepads, pens and helmets to passers-by.  
They were also encouraged to spread road safety awareness through various means including social media.
As a part of the programme, quiz competition for students between Class 7 to 9 studying in Government/Government aided/private unaided schools was held at Ibotonsana Girl’s Higher Secondary School, Uripok in collaboration with Zonal Education Officer, Zone-I, Imphal West, on the theme “Road Safety in India”. The program ended with the distribution of certificates and prizes to the winning teams and participants.
Separately, as part of the National Road Saftey Month 2024, a one-day road safety awareness programme on the topic "Road safety and the importance of its awareness to us" was held at GP Women's College hall today with the participation of around 50 students.
The programme was jointly organsied by the Transport Department in collaboration with the Institute of Drivers Training & Research Centre (IDTRC) and GP Women's College, informed a press release issued by Doren Heisnam, project manager, IDTRC Manipur.
The programme was attended by L Johnson, DTO Churachandpur; S Sanahal, DTO Kangpokpi; Dr Shilheima Chanu Naoroibam, Assistant Professor, Department of History, GP Women's College'; Doren Heisnam, project manager, IDTRC and Kh Deben, vice president, IDTRC.
On the occasion, L Johnson said that using mobile phones while driving is a punishable offence and if someone is caught speaking on the phone while driving, then they will be awarded penalties for the same.
He added that road race among drivers is also one of the main causes of road accidents in Manipur.
Further, he spoke about road safety signs: "Mandatory, Cautionary and Informatory".
In addition, a quiz session was held and pamphlets with various messages on road safety and traffic rules were distributed to the participants.
