IMPHAL, Feb 12
The newly appointed Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), Major General Ravroop Singh, SM, called on the Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan, Imphal on Monday and briefed her on the prevailing law & order situations in the State.
According to a release issued by PRO Raj Bhavan, Maj Gen Ravroop Singh was accompanied by the outgoing IGAR (South), Maj Gen Rajan Sherawat, AVSM, USM.
The Governor appreciated the efforts, activities taken up by Maj Gen Rajan Sherawat during his tenure in the State and extended warm wishes for all his future endeavours.
Besides, Vice Chancellor, Bir Tikendrajit University, Prof AK Choudary along with Dr Johnson Luwang, Coordinator, Directorate of Research & Extension, Bir Tikendrajit University also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan and had a discussion on promoting peace & prosperity in Manipur through education.
The Governor urged them to continue their service in the Education sector for the welfare and development of the State.
National Secretary, Republican Party of India (A), Maheshwar Thounaojam along with Potshangbam Chand Meetei also called on the Governor today.
During the meeting, they briefed the Governor about the measures for bringing permanent peace and normalcy in Manipur.
Maheshwar also highlighted various measures such as implementation of the Manipur Hill Areas (Acquisition of Chieftainship) Act, 1967; Abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement between the Government of India, Government of Manipur and Militant Groups of Kuki-Chin-Zo community signed on August 22, 2008 and extended till February 29, 2024; and implementation of NRC with 1951 as the base year.
They also conveyed the problems and grievances of the internally displaced persons taking refuge at relief camps opened across the State.
The Governor took note of their concerns and assured them to look into the matter and discussed with the authority concerned.
The Governor also urged them to submit a list of the relief camps facing problems at present.
