IMPHAL, Feb 9 : Manipur University Vice Chancellor Professor Naorem Lokendro Singh has asserted that "1857 and Prince Narendrajit (Sana Chahi Ahum)" will prove to be an important book on India's modern history.
The MU VC made the statement during a book discussion function on "1857 and Prince Narendrajit (Sana Chahi Ahum)" organised by UNACCO College, Khongman (Mamang Pat) and Intellectual Forum of North East Manipur at UNACCO College, Khongman Multipurpose Hall today.
It is worth noting that Dr Shukhdeba Sharma Hanjabam, Pukhrambam James Singh, Moirangthem Tineshowri Devi are the editors of "1857 and Prince Narendrajit (Sana Chahi Ahum)".
Speaking as the chief guest, Professor Naorem Lokendro stated that "1857 and Prince Narendrajit (Sana Chahi Ahum)" clearly shows that Manipur participated in the Revolt of 1857 which marked the beginning of the freedom struggle against the colonial tyranny of the British empire.
Thus, the book will carve a niche for itself in modern Indian history, said Professor Naorem Lokendro.
Stating that the book was released on January 12 at Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, the MU VC stated that the book will prove to be very beneficial to budding researchers and scholars alike.
Meanwhile, Ningombam Irabanta Singh, chairman UNACCO College Khongman stated that the 9 month old conflict has been caused by people who are ignorant about the history of Manipur and the laws of peaceful coexistence in order to cause harm to the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Stating that the people of Manipur should write their own history, he urged the public to ensure that Manipuri history is taught not only under the Manipur Board and Council but also included in the curriculum under CBSE and UGC.
He further added that UNACCO is preparing to establish a cultural institute dedicated to Rajarshi Bhagyachandra.
Today's book discussion was also graced by Dhanamanjuri University Vice Chancellor Professor Nongmaithem Rajmuhon Singh; Bodoland University Vice Chancellor Professor Laishram Ladu Singh and Manipur Seva Samiti president Dr Chingtham Chandramani Singh.
