DIMAPUR, Dec 31: NSCN-IM general secretary Th Muivah has expressed his "profound sorrow" over the passing of former U.S. president Jimmy Carter. Muivah said Jimmy was a distinguished leader who held deep respect for the rights of the Naga people and closely followed the progress of the Indo-Naga dialogue for many years. "He envisioned a secure and honourable future for the Nagas," Muivah added.
Demonstrating his (Jimmy) unwavering interest and support, following the signing of the Amsterdam Joint Communique on July 11, 2002, "president Carter wrote a letter to the then Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on June 18, 2005", said Muivah. In this letter, Jimmy Carter commended Dr. Singh's wise and courageous leadership in advancing the Naga political issue towards a peaceful and lasting solution that would ensure the rights of the Naga people while maintaining India's security, the NSCN-IM leader mentioned.
