IMPHAL, Dec 31 : The World Meetei Council (WMC) has said that they have come across some people who are not related with the Council spreading falsehood by using its name and logo. In a statement issued by its assistant secretary general CEC Sarat Thangjam, the WMC said the Council is a movement which started on October 1, 2018 to unite the Meeteis living across the globe. Saying that WMC joined hand with Meeteis living in different continents and submitted a memorandum to the United Nations to counter the unfounded allegations raised by Chin-Kuki people on October 3, 2023, the Council added that they also urged the UNHRC to withdraw the misleading report which portrayed Meeteis as the aggressor and the Chin-Kuki people as the victim of the crisis on October 25, 2023. Saying that attempts were made by some sections of people who had either resigned or been expelled from the Council to split the Council, the WMC said that its chairman Heigrujam Nabashyam had written to the Chief Minister over the matter. The Council then appealed to all media houses to publish a news story after verifying the authenticity of the group to avoid confusion.
