Fire service responds to 358 fire calls in 2024

IMPHAL, Dec 31 : Presenting the year-end report for 2024, the Station Officer of Manipur Fire Service informed that the department responded to 358 fire calls and 41 special service calls overall.
Responding to 358 fire calls of different magnitude in 2024, the fire service personnel managed to save goods and properties worth Rs 4,75,13,250 while the fires caused a total of Rs 51,38,17,700 in damages, said the Station Officer in a notification.
They also received 41 special service calls, which included cases of drowning (both humans and animals) and entrapment in snares/nets among others.
In responding to these calls, the fire service personnel saved 30 lives while another 11 lives were unfortunately lost.
On another note, the Manipur Fire Service conducted 688 fire audits across 33 hospitals, 15 hotels, 408 schools, 109 banks/offices, 104 industrial buildings and other 17 offices in 2024 to ensure that fire safety rules were being followed, said the notification.
Training sessions and awareness programmes on fire safety were conducted in hospitals, hotels and schools across Imphal, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Senapati, Tamenglong, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Chandel, Ukhrul and Jiribam district and approximately 1735 persons were trained.
The notification went on to state that the total manpower of Manipur Fire Service is 308, including ministerial staff. The Department has submitted a proposal to the authority concerned to purchase additional vehicles and equipment to enhance their ability to deal with fire and other special calls. Additionally, they have fielded a suggestion to set up fire sub-stations in four appropriate locations, it added.
Including the Imphal Head Quarter, there are 19 fire stations under the Manipur Fire Service.
The remaining sub-stations are located at Mayang Imphal, Loitang Khunou, Bishnupur, Moirang, Nambol, Thoubal, Yairipok, Kakching, Sugnu, Chandel, Ukhrul, Senapati, Kangpokpi, Tamenglong, Jiribam, Churachandpur, Singhat and Moreh, said the notification.
