Aggressive Kuki women tear gassed

IMPHAL, Dec 31 : Central forces launched a crackdown on a group of aggressive Kuki women who tried to obstruct the personnel while on duty at Saibol in Kangpokpi today.
Some Kuki women who were part of the mob also tore their clothes in front of the security personnel for reasons best known only to themselves.  
It is reported that the Kuki women, apart from trying to obstruct the Central security personnel on duty since 8 am, also vandalised several items in the area.
To control the violent mob, the security fired tear gas shells.
Notably, Yaingangpokpi Uyokching and Thamna-pokpi Uyokching are the places from where Kuki militants attacked Meetei villages in the adjacent areas on different occasions by setting up bunkers with the recent being the continuous attacks which went on from December 24 to December 28.
Three persons viz one village volunteer, one police personnel and one journalist were injured in the offensive which went on for five days.
The sites at Yaingang-pokpi Uyokching and Thamnapokpi Uyokching  from where the Kuki militants launched the attacks were taken over by Central security force viz CRPF, BSF and Indian Army on December 29 and they have been standing on guard there since then. Kuki folks, however, have been protesting against the deployment of the Central forces.
Today, a large number of Kuki women from different areas came to Saibol and protested against the deployment of Central forces at Yaingangpokpi Uyokching and Thamnapokpi Uyok-ching.
It is reported that the Kuki women were transported to the place from different Kuki inhabited areas in a number of vehicles right from the morning. The violent mob then went to the site where the Central forces were deployed and created a scene there by vandalising things and tearing their own clothes. The Kuki women were aggressive even when the security personnel tried to talk with them so the latter fired tear gas shells and smoke bombs and dispersed the mob. To claim that the security personnel were harassing them, some of the Kuki women tore their clothes. Central forces, nonetheless, managed to disperse the Kuki women who wanted to disrupt the security measures being taken up in the areas which were earlier controlled by Kuki militants.
