IMPHAL, Dec 30: A combined team of Imphal East district police and Imphal East Drug Inspector today raided a diabetes hospital (diabetes treatment centre) opened by one Moirangthem Dhanabir as its managing director.
On receiving complaints that the hospital was opened without obtaining the mandatory licence and medicines without manufacturing and expiry dates were sold at the hospital’s pharmacy, the combined team raided the hospital located at Porompat Ayangpalli Road (Meri Leirak Machin) and seized a number of medicines.
The team led by Imphal East Drug Inspector A Romeeta raided the so-called Diabetes Hospital and Research Centre this morning.
A few months back, the Directorate of Health Services prohibited Diabetes Hospital and Research Centre from opening.
Notwithstanding the prohibition, the hospital was reopened and it started treating patients without obtaining the mandatory licence.
Moreover, a pharmacy opened inside the hospital was selling diabetes medicines without manufacturing and expiry dates, according to a complaint. True to the complaint, a large number of diabetes medicines without manufacturing and expiry dates were seized from the pharmacy during the raid.
Subsequently, police locked the hospital as well as the pharmacy. The medicines seized from the pharmacy were taken away by the team led by the Imphal East Drug Inspector for laboratory tests.
Drug Inspector A Romeeta appealed to all the people not to go to the particular hospital for any medical examination, diagnosis or treatment until the prohibition placed by the Directorate of Health Services is lifted.
She also appealed to all the people not to buy any medicine from the hospital’s pharmacy.
