IMPHAL, Dec 29: After five days of continuous attack on Meitei villages of Sanasabi, Thamnapokpi, Shanti-khongbal, Sabungkhok and Sabungkhok Khunou etc for five days since December 24 from the surrounding hills, security forces have taken control of the bunkers used by Kuki terrorists.
A combined team of army, BSF and CRPF climbed up the nearby hills this morning to drive out the Kuki terrorists but they achieved little success.
The second attempt too ended with little success. It was on the third attempt that the combined force succeeded in taking control of the bunkers used by Kuki terrorists.
Sources said that the security forces will keep the Uyok Ching (nearby hills) under their occupation from tonight.
According to information culled from the spot, a combined team of CRPF, BSF and army climbed up the Uyok Ching at around 7.30 am today but their way was blocked by a large number of Kuki women and men.
Nonetheless, the combined force pressed on and managed to make their way.
Drone footage showed Kuki terrorists targeting the advancing combined team of Central security forces which included women personnel with stones and other projectiles.
When the combined force somehow reached the Uyok Ching, the Kuki terrorists had already abandoned their bunkers and fled away, said the sources.
With the combined force stationed at the Uyok Ching till the time of filing this report, there was no report of any firing from Kuki terrorists on Sunday.
According to the sources, the troops were awaiting order from the higher authority to stay put on the hill. The combined force has also taken control of the bunkers used by the Kuki terrorists.
It was from these bunkers that Kuki terrorists rained bombs and bullets on Meitei villages from December 24 till 10.30 am of December 28.
After the Kuki terrorists attacked the Meitei villages throughout December 27 night till 10.30 am of December 28, the combined force moved in to destroy bunkers built in the valley as well as on the hills yesterday.
Although the combined force destroyed the bunkers built at Thamnapokpi, they could not destroy the bunkers built on the hills yesterday.
