IMPHAL, Dec 28: Half a truck load of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) was seized by Meira Paibis at Nongpok Sanjenbam, Imphal East district under Lamlai police station.
On receiving certain information, the Nongpok Sanjenbam Apunba Meira Paibi Lup halted a white truck at Nongpok Sanjen-bam at around 4 pm yesterday.
On checking the truck, it was found loaded with IMFL almost up to half its height although the bags of common salt made up the outermost row.
The driver abandoned the truck and fled away.
Nonetheless, the Nongpok Sanjenbam Apun-ba Meira Paibi Lup together with Meira Paibis from neighbouring villages like Khurai, Top Moirang-kampu, Takhel etc disposed of the liquor by breaking the bottles at Nongmaiching foothill.
Later, the broken bottles were buried after a pit was dug out using an excavator (JCB), sources said.
On the other hand, the abandoned truck was handed over to Lamlai police station for proper investigation.
It is estimated that the IMFL seized from the truck and later disposed of was valued at around Rs 80 lakh in the local market.
