IMPHAL, Dec 27 : The women and student wings of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) have endorsed the 24 hour shutdown being called against the killing of one person at Salungpham on December 14 and the arrest of six other persons from the same place on the same day.
The shutdown which began from 6 pm today will continue till 6 pm tomorrow.
COCOMI student's front, in a statement, said that the Government cracking down on volunteers who came out voluntarily to defend Meetei villages from the onslaught of Chin-Kuki narco terrorists is unacceptable.
It urged the Government and its machinery to exercise their authority against the groups hostile towards Meeteis.
Demanding unconditional release of the six 'village volunteers' who were arrested from Salungpham on December 14, the student's front of COCOMI said that people may run out of patience if the Government continues the crackdown on 'village volunteers.'
The women's wing of COCOMI, on the other hand, said that many innocent people were compelled to come out and defend Meetei villages as both the Centre and the State Government failed to protect the lives and properties of the people.
There is no respite from Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists till today, it said and added that the Government showing their might on village volunteers instead of stopping the aggression of Chin Kuki narco terrorists is an act of cowardice.
COCOMI women's wing said that they fully support the bandh being called by the JAC formed in connection with the Salungpham incident.
