IMPHAL, Dec 27: Pointing out that surface transport is no longer accessible and Meiteis are left with only airways to travel outside the State and back, MLA L Rameshwar has called upon the Meitei community to produce enough food to ensure the community’s survival.
Speaking at the inaugural function of a newly constructed building of Youth Social Club, Kyamgei Khoirom Leikai today, L Rameshwar who is also the Chairman of Planning and Development Authority (PDA) said, “We need to make ourselves self-sufficient in every field”.
Following the aggression launched by Kukis on May 3, 2023, there are very few highways on which Meiteis can travel.
If Meiteis must go outside the State for any reason, be it medical treatment, education orwork, they must go by air but air travel is not affordable by everyone, Rameshwar said. Pointing out that the State’s economy has also been severely affected by the protracted crisis, Rameshwar said that it’s time for the Meitei community to produce enough food and other necessities as far as possible.
“Let us cultivate different varieties of crops and vegetables on the paddy fields instead of leaving them vacant or uncultivated after harvesting paddy. Let us make ourselves self-sufficient in food production”, he said.
He also appealed to all organisations, clubs and Meira Paibi Lup to work collectively with a determination to keep/wean away youth from intoxicating drugs and other substances.
