IMPHAL, Dec 26 : Chief Minister N Biren Singh making a mockery of Inner Manipur MP Dr Bimol Akoijam for speaking about Manipur outside the Parliament was unbecoming of the position he holds, said Congress MLA Th Lokeshwar.
Speaking to the media in this regard at the quarters of Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit at Babupara today, Lokeshwar who is the MLA of Khundrakpam AC said that an MP has the right to address what he wants before the media if he or she is not given the time to raise an issue during a Parliament session.
He further said that the five Congress MLAs had held a press briefing in front of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to speak out against the indifference of the Government to the issues they raised during a House session.
Saying that MP Bimol Akoijam made every effort to raise the issues of Manipur during the winter session of the Parliament, he added that the Speaker of the House, unfortunately, didn't give any chance to the MP to speak.
He went on to state that Bimol Akoijam addressing the media about the abduction and merciless killing of three women and three children in Jiribam outside the Parliament after he was not given the time to speak during a House session was in the interest of the people of Manipur.
The MLA, meanwhile, accused the Government of not putting in sincere efforts to end the crisis in Manipur by utilising Central and State forces.
Saying that firing incidents continue to take place despite the crisis entering the 20th month, he said and added that the Chief Minister should take up necessary steps to summon the Assembly as soon as possible if he has the guts so that a discussion on the crisis could be held in a proper forum and possibly work a solution instead of blaming the Congress party all the time.
The Chief Minister putting the blame on Congress for signing a Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact is unfortunate, he said and added that there was no point in giving or demanding separate administration while signing the pact.
He urged the Chief Minister to first study the points of agreement of SoO before making a comment.
