Imphal Book Fair draws to a close

IMPHAL, Dec 24 : The 31st edition of Imphal Book Fair concluded today after 10 days of cultural experience for fans of literature and seekers of knowledge at.
The book fair which was jointly organised by State Central Library, Imphal, Department of Art and Culture, Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata and Ministry of Culture of Government of India began on December 15.
The closing ceremony which was held at the auditorium of  the State Central Library Imphal, the venue of the book fair, was attended by Commissioner of Art and Culture M Joy, Director K Dinamani and Former Commissioner K Radhakumar as chief guest, president and  guest of honour.
Speaking at the function, M Joy said that reading culture must be promoted especially among the young people  to build a vibrant society.
Saying that education is a powerful weapon which can shape the future of society, he added that reading good books is like engaging in conversation with the most cultivated and finest minds of the past and present generations.
Continuing that several students make poor career choices because of parental pressure, Joy maintained that it is important for the parents to understand their child's choice of career path.
Parents should  actively listen and observe the interests, strengths, and aspirations of their children and support them in pursuing their dreams, he said.
Prizes for the painting competition held as part of the book fair were also distributed during the function.
