Vijay Hazare Trophy Manipur go down by 8 wickets against Ishan Kishan-led Jharkhand

IMPHAL, Dec  23 : Manipur suffered an 8-wicket loss to Jharkhand captained by India international Ishan Kishan in their second Group A match of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 at Dr Soni Stadium, Jaipur.
Manipur opted to bat first after winning the toss and posted a modest total of 253/7 but Jharkhand skipper and wicketkeeper simplified the chase by hitting a quickfire ton (134 off 78 balls; 16 fours and 6 sixes) by forging a 196 runs for the first wicket with Utkarsh Singh (68 off 64 balls) before Kumar Kushagra 26 and Anukul Roy 17 finished off the chase in 28.3 overs with 8 wickets left to spare.
A fighting half century from Ng Johnson (82-ball 69; 7 fours) was the highlight of the Manipur innings as K Priyojit (43 off 49 balls), Pheiroijam Jotin (35 not out), Basir Rahman 26, Karnajit Yumnam 24 made significant contributions.
Utkarsh Singh (2/21) and Anukul Roy (2/47) shared four wickets as Vikash Singh, Supriyo Chakraborty and Atul Singh Surwar picked a wicket apiece for Jharkhand.
For Manipur L Kishan Singh undone both the leading scorers for Jharkhand to return with the bowling figures of 2/57 in 5.3 overs.
Earlier in the first match, Manipur suffered a 182-run loss against Uttarakhand.
Manipur will play Goa in the next match on December 25 at Dr Soni Stadium.
