IMPHAL, Dec 23 : A 1-Day Legal Awareness Programme was conducted today at the auditorium of Vision of Hope, Drug and Alcohol De Addiction Centre, Khonghampat, Imphal West on the topic, "Issue of Drug Abuse and De-Addiction Schemes/Policies in the State".
The awareness programme was organised by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Imphal West in coordination with Vision of Hope, Drug and Alcohol De Addiction Centre, Khonghampat, under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Yumkham Rother, District and Session Judge, Imphal West cum Chairman, DLSA, Imphal West and led by Asem Tarunakumari Devi, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West cum Secretary, DLSA, Imphal West.
The primary objectives of the legal awareness programme are- Prevention of Drug Abuse: to prevent the initiation of drug use among vulnerable population, especially youth; Reduction of Drug Dependence: to reduce the prevalence of drug dependency and promote de-addiction; and Rehabilitation and Reintegration: to provide rehabilitation services and support reintegration of individuals recovering from drug addiction into society.
Resource person of the programme, Ld RK Imoba Singh, Retainer Lawyer, Imphal West, enlightened the gathering about the National Legal Services Authority (Legal Services to the Victims of Drug Abuse and the Eradication of Drug Menace) Scheme 2015 and the roles and functions of State Legal Services Authority to the victims of drug abuse.
Gobby Soraisam, co-ordinator, Vision of Hope; Danny Aribam, OA, DLSA, I/W; Karlmarx Yumnam, FO, Imphal West, and staff of DLSA, Imphal West were present at the programme.
