Thang-Ta Festival concludes Thang-Ta encompasses elements of culture, education, sports and tourism : Huidrom Premkumar

IMPHAL, Dec  22 : "Thang-Ta Festival" organised by the Imphal West District Thang-Ta Association, Wangoi Makha Leikai in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India came to a close today at Thang-Ta Shanglen, Yumnam Huidrom.
The closing ceremony of the five-day programme was attended by Huidrom Premkumar, president Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur; Thounaojam Priyokumar, president Imphal West District Thang-Ta Association; Heikrujam Cha Babu, secretary Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association and S Tiken, secretary Thoubal District Thang-Ta Association as presidium members.
In all, 105 Thang-Ta players from 8 different bodies and teachers participated in the "Thang-Ta Festival", said Imphal West District Thang-Ta Association in a press release.
The press release also quoted Huidrom Premkumar as saying, "Manipur's indigenous martial art-form : Thang-Ta is a complete treasure left behind by our forefathers. It encompasses the elements of culture, education, sports and tourism."
He also lauded the State Government and the Central Government for their active involvement in preservation and promotion of Thang-Ta by sanctioning funds and other assistance, it added.
He also stressed on the need for a more deeper academic research on Thang-Ta, Imphal West District Thang-Ta Association continued.
