IMPHAL, Dec 21 : The All Tribal Rights Protection Forum, Manipur has appealed the State Government for early implementation of the resolution adopted by the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) recommending the formation of an ad-hoc committee to supervise the administration of the Autonomous District Council in the hill areas until the long-delayed ADC polls are held.
A press release issued by CH Joy, president, All Tribal Rights Protection Forum, has also made a clarion call to hill based CSOs, intellectuals, social activists, Church leaders, student activists, tribal leaders and individuals concerned to embrace the concept of an expert committee mooted by the HAC.
The Forum asserted that the unanimous resolution adopted by the HAC during the meeting held on October 14 should be viewed as a positive approach which shows deep concern for the genuine grievances of the hill people.
The Forum expressed belief that this move was not made with malafide intention but after taking into account the welfare of the hill districts.
The resolution was made after a detailed and minute deliberation by the MLAs of the HAC, it maintained.
The Forum reasoned that the HAC was compelled to come up with the idea of forming an ad-hoc committee consisting of various individual experts along with former ADC members to strengthen the local bodies in the hill districts.
With no other viable option at this critical juncture where ADC polls cannot be held due to the inconducive and volatile situation in the State, the Forum has urged all concerned to accept the HAC recommendation and urged the State Government to implement the same swiftly.
