IMPHAL, Nov 5 : Adamas University, Kolkata were crowned champions of the East Zone Inter University Women's Football Tournament 2024-25 hosted by the National Sports University, Imphal under the auspices of Association of Indian Universities.
Adamas University topped the final league round of the tournament on 7 points off two wins and a draw while Vidyasagar University, Medinipur (WB) finished runners up on 6 points off two wins registered today.
At Main Stadium, Vidyasagar University who had to forfeit their opening league round match yesterday, opened their winning account by thrashing LN Mithila University, Darbhanga (Bihar) 5-1 this morning.
A double by Barnali Mahata (7', 15'), one goal apiece from Sujata Mahala (3') and Barnali Mahata (45') and an own goal by LN Mithila University's Nibha Kumari (48') sealed the 5-1 win for Vidyasagar University as Anjali Kumari (31') scored a consolation goal for LN Mithila University.
In another match, Adamas University extended their winning run to two games by trouncing University of Burdwan (WB) 4-1 thanks to Mousumi Murmu who struck all the goals (24', 42', 50', 60+3') after Priya Baski handed University of Burdwan an early 4th minute lead.
The penultimate league match saw Vidyasagar University earn a walkover win against University of Burdwan to gather another 3 points and finish runners up.
Meanwhile, Adamas University played out a 1-1 draw with LN Mithila University in the last league match staged later at Main Stadium, Khuman Lampak to finish unbeaten in the final league round.
LN Mithila University took the lead three minutes into the game courtesy of Anjali Kumari only to be equalised by Rimpa Haldar for Adamas University in the 20th minute.
Despite efforts from both the ends to add up in the latter stages, the scoreline remained unchanged and eventually Adamas University finished on top of the table.
Mousmi Murmu and Rimpa Haldar of Adamas University were also adjudged top scorer and best player of the tournament as Khushi Kumari of LN Mithila was declared best goalkeeper.
