Awareness programme on water conservation and management conducted

An awareness programme on "Water conservation and water management" was held today at Heirok Part II Devi Mandop.
The programme was jointly organised by the Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM), Tezpur and Agriculture Department, Government of Manipur, Eco-Network Heirok and United Progressive Farmer Association (UPFA), Heirok, said press note issued by Shinthangamba Laishram, president, Eco-Network Heirok.
On the occasion, Dr Ch Victoria, Assistant Professor, NERIWALM spoke about methods of rain water harvesting and water conservation while Kh Nimaichand Singh, Cotton Development Officer, Project Officer (MMO VCD-NER), Govt of Manipur, Department of Agriculture educated the gathering about scientific methods of water conservation to provide perennial water supply for crop cultivation.
Dr Sanayanbi Hodam, Assistant Professor, Assam University, Silchar and Dr Shelina RK, Block Coordinator (NRM) DRDA, Govt of Manipur also shared many useful tips on water management with the audience.
Later, the gathering had an interactive session with the resource persons.
More than 150 farmers participated in the awareness programme.
