Senapati, Nov 5 : Over 200 loaded trucks remain stranded at Mao gate and Tadubi area as the protest in Senapati against 'continuous harassment' of travellers and extortion entered the fourth day today.
Another cause of worry as  per this correspondent is that the State Government hasn't communicated with the frontal organisations of Senapati to resolve the crisis as of yet.
The protest spearheaded by Naga People’s Organization (NPO), Senapati; Senapati District Women Association (SDWA) and Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) started on November 2 against increasing cases of harassment of civilians and extortion amid the imbroglio which has been engulfing Manipur since May last year.
Speaking to the media, NPO spokesman Chunthan said that their protest is in response to the continuous harassment of civilians and extortions along the Highway.
Saying that daily public complaints the NPO has been receiving reveals the frustration of the people, he added that people’s patience has reached its limit.
Further stating that two individuals from Senapati district were attacked recently, he added that in another case commercial goods belonging to a Naga woman were seized by the Kuki volunteers at CoTU gate located at border Gamgiphai, Motbung.
Chunthan said that no responsible civil society organizations (CSOs) from the community involved have stepped forward to intervene till date. Continuing that their agitation is not targeted against any community, the NPO spokesman said that they will continue to restrict movement of commercial vehicles beyond Senapati until the responsible CSOs take action, ensure accountability and book the culprits.
The NPO officials visited the stranded trucks at Mao yesterday and told them that the agitation was called to ensure the safety of the commuters.
