IMPHAL, Nov 4 : Salam Lokendro of Laphupat Tera, Imphal West has won the first prize of the 45th Annual Fish Fair cum Fish Crop competition organised by Fisheries Department on November 2 at Hapta Kangjeibung.
The total fish production for this year's annual fish fair surpassed the set target of 1,50,000 Kgs totting up a total of 1,56,000 Kgs.
Fisheries Director H Balkrishna announced the results of the fish fair cum fish crop competition today and Salam Lokendro was given the first prize of Rs one lakh for producing 43,765 Kgs of fish.
Ningthoujam Basanta Singh of Khordak, Bishnupur district and Laimujam Dinamani of Tentha, Thoubal district won the second and third prize for producing of 17,462 Kgs and 17,366 Kgs of fish respectively.
They were honoured with cash rewards of Rs 70,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively.
Salam Lokendro won the first prize in the indigenous fish category too by producing 9,735 Kgs of indigenous fish.
Moreover, 20 other fish farmers were also honoured with consolation prizes.
Among the District Fisheries Officers, Imphal West DFO K Gunabati was adjudged the highest fish production officer (valley) for producing 47,545 Kgs of fish.
Among the hill districts, Chandel DFO Sapam Jiten was declared the best DFO for producing 2770 Kgs of fish.
Both of them were also felicitated.
Fisheries Department had set a target of putting 1,50,000 Kgs of fish on sale at the 45th Fish Fair cum Fish Crop Competition 2024. But the actual production surpassed the target by 6000 Kgs as 1,56,000 Kgs of fish were put on sale at the fair.
