U-14 NSG Handball : Boys progress into quarterfinals, girls exit in pre-quarterfinals

IMPHAL, Nov 27 : State boys reached quarterfinals as the girls made it to the pre-quarterfinals of the 68th National School Games Handball for U-14 boys and girls underway in Mahasamund, Chhattisgarh since November 25.
The boys team entered quarterfinals with a 19-8 pre-quarterfinal win against Himachal Pradesh today.
Soram Kaiku added 8 goals in Manipur's commanding win today as Thongam Indra contributed 5 goals. Nongmeikapam Thoibi and Nongmaithem Jiten also contributed two goals apiece as Naoren Yoihenba netted one.
As many as 30 teams clubbed into 8 groups are competing in the boys competition.
Meanwhile, State girls ended their journey in the 29-team tournament as they bowed out with a 9-10 pre-quarterfinal loss today in the hands of Rajasthan.
L Nomika and N Pitalika added 3 goals apiece in this match as N Selina scored twice and Y Trivenia added one.
They had earlier won 15-9 win over Himachal Pradesh in the final league round (Group E) match today to book their place in the last-16 round.
L Nomika scored 6 goals to set up the easy win for Manipur today as N Selina and N Pitalika netted 4 and 3 goals respectively and Yanglem Trivenia and N Alia grabbed a goal apiece.
Earlier the girls had beaten Punjab 13-5 in the opening match thanks to 7 goals from Lairenlakpam Nomika before defeating CISCI 19-6 in the second match. Nomika also topscored with 8 goals in Manipur's victory.
