"ELISA Hands on Training" kicks off at Shija

IMPHAL, Nov 27: A three-day "ELISA Hands on Training" for lab technicians, labour in-charge and DSU microbiologists kicked off at Shija Academy of Health Sciences, Langol today.
ELISA, which stands for Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay, is a laboratory test used to measure antibodies, antigens, proteins and glycoproteins in biological samples. Organised by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) under National Health Mission Manipur, the inaugural function witnessed the attendance of Dr Chambo Gonmei, Director, Health Services; Dr M Amuba, Director, Shija Academy of Health Sciences; Dr Jugindro Sorokhaibam, Medical Services, Shija Hospitals & Research Institute and Dr S Gopal, State Surveillance Officer, Directorate of Health Services as the chief guest, functional president and guests of honour respectively.
On the occasion, Dr Chambo Gonmei stressed on the importance of improving the knowledge, experience and skill of lab technicians. Incompetence on the part of lab technicians can lead to wrong diagnosis by the doctors, he cautioned. As a result the three-day training programme was organised to improve the proficiency of lab technicians and add to their experience and productivity, he said. Additionally, he highlighted the need for quality assurance in the field of lab testing to avoid panic among patients caused by false results.
He underscored the importance of sincere technical proficiency and not only technical certification.
