IMPHAL, Nov 25: A sum of Rs 1,94,500 contributed by the people of Thangmeiband to purchase essential items for displaced persons staying in the relief camps opened at Thangmeiband AC has been handed over to Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO).
MLA Kh Joykisan handed over the amount to TAKDO at Khoyathong community hall today.
Notably, a frenzied mob infuriated by the cold blooded and barbaric murder of three children and three women by Kuki-Zo-Hmar terrorists at Jiribam stormed the residence of Joykisan on November 16.
Apart from damaging the MLA’s residence, the mob also destroyed blankets, jackets and edible items stored in the MLA’s house for distribution to IDPs staying in three relief camps opened in Thangmeiband AC.
The mob also vandalised the shrines of Lainingthou Sanamahi, Ima Leimarel located inside the house and the shrine of Ebudhou Pakhangba located near the residential gate.
The MLA took Rs 3000 from the people’s contributions to repair the damaged shrines and handed over the remaining amount to TAKDO.
Joykisan conveyed gratitude to the people of Thangmeiband AC for contributing the amount.
He said that the people’s fury against the elected representatives and destruction of properties is understandable but vandalising the shrines of Lainingthou Sanamahi, Ima Leimarel and Ebudhou Pakhangba was unduly offending.
It was an attack on the indigenous faith and people will come to know the offenders in time, he added.
