IMPHAL, Nov 24 : In a scathing attack, veteran politician and ex-Minister Okram Joy has said that the State Government has completely failed to douse the flame of violence in Manipur.
He made the statement during a book release function held at Kakwa Khongnang Pheidekpi today.
Speaking to the media on the sideline of the function, O Joy continued that the Government is still at the preparation stage to defend Manipur even though the violence has been causing immeasurable hardships to the people all these months.
The Government has failed to resolve the crisis, he said.
Continuing that it is the incompetence of the Government coupled with an indifferent Delhi which has allowed the cycle of killings and violence to persist, he reminded that the majority of the  MLAs in Manipur belong to the ruling party while the Congress has only five.
What Congress party did in the past is another thing but the fact is that it is the MLAs from among the ruling parties who have been demanding disintegration of Manipur, the ex-Minister added.
Further stating that BJP MLA Paolienlal Haokip (Saikot AC) is the most brazen among the Kuki MLAs, O Joy said that Paolienal justifying the killing of women and children in captivity by armed Kukis by terming it as an act of revenge is unacceptable. Why is the BJP not taking any action against its MLA who even justify the killing of innocent toddler, women and children or does the constitution of BJP allow such a statement to be made public ? he asked.
Continuing that the Centre should not brush aside the crisis in Manipur, he added that members and  MLAs of BJP can resign if they are not satisfied with the response of the Centre.
What people want is peace not deployment of tens of thousands of security personnel, he said and added that it is doubtful the present regime under N Biren will be able to restore normalcy in the State unless they reach out to civil society organisations and the people and take a collective resolution to end the conflict.
