Mumbai protests Jiri massacre
Mumbai, Nov 24
In a display of unity and grief, the Mumbai Manipuri Solidarity Group (MMSG) and the Manipuri (Meitei) Association (MMA) organized a silent candlelight vigil and sit-in demonstration at Central Park, Kharghar last night.
The gathering was a solemn protest against the brutal abduction, 'rape', and murder of six unarmed women and children in Jiribam by suspected Kuki terrorists.
Among the victims was an eight month old infant, whose tragic death not only deeply affected the Manipuri community but also sent a chilling and horrific message to the world about the rising atrocities in conflict zones.
The emotionally charged atmosphere saw demonstrators—many of Manipuri origin—holding placards with messages such as "Bring the Manipur Baby Killers to Justice," "Protect the Innocents—Stop Targeting Women and Children," and "Save Manipur from Armed Terrorists."
Participants lit candles and observed moments of silence in honour of the deceased, sending a strong message of solidarity and demanding accountability from both the State and Central Governments.
This demonstration in Mumbai is part of a larger wave of solidarity protests across the country and beyond, with similar events being held in Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Silchar, Agartala, Seoul, and other cities.
The conflict in Manipur erupted on May 3, 2023.
