Yaiskul backs Speaker

IMPHAL, Nov 24 : A score of Yaiskul Assembly Constituency (AC) residents/locals today thronged the residence of MLA and Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata at Brahmapur Bheigyabati Leikai this afternoon and urged him not to resign from his membership to the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The locals of the Assembly segment gathered and raised the call amidst the demand for resignation of MLAs from various sections in the backdrop of the Jiribam's abduction and brutal killing of 6 women and children.
The locals and the MLA then assembled at YASU ground close to the MLA's residence and discussed the matter pertaining to his resignation.
The locals were of the opinion that the MLA should not resign from his post without any valid reason and leave the Assembly segment leaderless.
Speaking at the occasion, one Laimayum Nonibala said that the MLA should not be confused on whether he should resign or not.
The people of the Assembly segment want him to continue his service in close consultation with the people, she said. To whom the people will look up to and approach in times of need if he steps down, she asked while appealing to the MLA to think carefully before taking any crucial step.
Expressing strong condemnation over the Jiribam incident, she also sought justice for the women and children and appealed to the MLA to extend all possible hand towards delivering justice to the victims.
The Speaker meanwhile said that his next political step, to remain in office or to step down, entirely rests on the overall aspiration of the people of the Assembly segment.
He also maintained that it is high time for political leaders to work more sincerely than ever to serve the interest of the people. Time for political leaders to remain indecisive has long gone, he said while expressing his desire to see at least some significant work on the part of the Government's leadership.
Saying that the people of the State are experiencing a very tough time, he also called upon the Government to be aware of the hardships faced by the people and take up a strong collective measure to tackle the prevailing issues.
