Manipur Violence---An Eye Opener
Sir,
Apropos the article ‘ Remaining neutral…….Union Govt anymore’ by Jaideep Majumdar (TSE Nov 19, 2024), the writer has very lucidly put forward what the Meiteis had been trying to attract the attention of the political leaders and the Babus in Delhi to see the situation in Manipur in its true perspective. They had allowed themselves to be fooled by the false narrative of a very professionally well organized fake news spinner of the Chin Kuki Zo to believe that the majority Meiteis had started the violence on the minority just to give a communal colour and earn sympathy as victims.
There had not been any incidence of enmity between the two in the past. The people were taken aback when they attacked unprovoked the Meiteis who were perplexed, till they came out with a demand of Separate Administration, later turned into State. Now they have shown their real intention. But the Indian Govt is unwilling to subdue the separatists. Instead send more forces to subdue the peaceful protest by the Meiteis against merciless killing of innocent kids and women in Jiribam.
The writer has very correctly summed up the approach of the Center as “bureaucratic” without understanding the history of the origin of the Kukis who are mostly illegal migrants. Central leaders advise dialogue between the two. But there is no meeting point as the writer has pointed out. They are simply not interested as they know it is not the Meiteis who can fulfill their demands. The options for the Central and State Govts are very clear as stated by him. Act now, tomorrow may be too late.
Yours faithfully,
AD Singh
