FOCS demands
IMPHAL, Nov 20: The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) has raised a series of demands to the Government including an appeal to declare organisations connected to 10 Kuki MLAs as "unlawful organisations."
The 10 Kuki MLAs are acting as the backbone of the organisations, which are involved in the ongoing violent conflict in the State. These organisations must be immediately declared as unlawful organisations, said FOCS Working Committee co-convenor Boboi Korimayum in a statement.
The recent reimposition of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in jurisdictions under six police stations is a matter of grave concern, he said.
The "draconian" AFSPA has caused many suffering to the people. Under the Act, many have perished. The Act must be withdrawn again from the valley areas, he added.
The Government of India must be apprised of the suffering the Suspension of Operation (SoO) has caused. The SoO pact is shrouded with uncertainties, he said.
Further, the National Register of Citizens (NRC) must be implemented to safeguard the indigenous people. Delaying its implementation is detrimental to the interests of the indigenous communities and genuine citizens of the State, he added.
