8 hurt in lightning

IMPHAL, Nov 20 : At least eight farmers were injured after they were struck by lightning at Akham Maning Loukol under Lamshang police station today.
The incident took place at around 1.37 pm and the condition of one of the injured is said to be critical.
The injured have been identified as Thokchom Dayananda (21), s/o Th Samananda of Thoubal Leishangthem, Mayengbam Gobin, s/o Late M Sobha of Thoubal Leishangthem, Konsam Joykumar (26), s/o K Sanaton of Lamshang Akham, Hijam Shamungou, s/o H Ibohal of Khongjom Sapam Mamang Leikai, Thokchom Praveen (33), s/o Th Thoiba of Thoubal Thoudam Leikai, Banu Bhakta Mishra (65), Heikrujam Sarat (34), s/o Late H Nipamacha of Khongjom Sapam Mamang Leikai and Leishangthem Basant (40).
It is reported that the lightning struck near the area where the farmers were taking cover during the rain.
All the eight farmers are undergoing treatment at RIMS.
Th Dayananda sustained injuries on his head and his condition is said to be critical.
