NPO bans
IMPHAL, Nov 2: The Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) has banned all forms of com-mercial vehicular transpor- tation in Kuki areas with immediate effect.
According to a press release issued by Grievances Cell, NPO, some Kuki people seized commercial items belonging to a Naga woman from Senapati at the Gamgiphai COTU gate on October 29, 2024.
The seizure took place in spite of an agreement that exempts all Naga community members from any form of illegal taxation.
However, repeated incidents of harassment and unlawful taxation continues, violating this mutual agreement between the two communities, the Grievances Cell, NPO said.
“In response and with a deep sense of grievance, the Grievances Cell, NPO is compelled to announce restriction on all forms of commercial vehicular transportation in the Kuki areas with immediate effect. This may intensify in due course of time”, it said.
This measure will remain in effect until the Kuki community issues a sincere apology and commits to upholding the standing agree- ment in letter and spirit, it added.
