East Zone Inter University Women's Football Hosts NSU thump DMU 3-0 in Imphal derby, MU bow out

IMPHAL, Nov 2 : Hosts National Sports University pulled off a 3-0 win over DM University in an all-Imphal teams' clash to advance to final preliminary round (8-teams) of the East-Zone Inter University Football (Women) Tournament as Manipur University bowed out with a 0-1 loss.
The winners of the final preliminary round to be held tomorrow, will advance to the qualifying matches where they will face semi-finalists of the previous editions drawn in four pools to decide the last four teams.
The last four teams will then compete in the final league round to decide the toppers on November 5.
In the 12th match staged this morning at Main Stadium, NSU rode on a brace from Esha Mattil (29', 39') after Shubiangonon's 4th minute strike to knock out DM University 3-0.
In the 11th match staged at the same time at RCC ground number 3, Adamas University romped 5-0 past Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh to book the next round berth.
It was a slow start to the game for Adamas University as they led the first period 1-0 thanks to Rimpa Haldar's 29th minute strike before Mousumi Murmu extended the lead to 3-0 by converting two back to back penalties in the 37th and the 43rd minutes.
Priya Rui Das then netted the team's fourth goal in the 52nd minute before Piyali Roy struck the final nail to the coffin at the stroke of the hour mark.
The day also saw University of Calcutta receiving a walkover as Sant Gahira Guru Vishwavidyalaya team did not turn up.
In the 14th match staged at RCC Ground number 3, Nisha Kumari starred with a treble (1', 50', 51') to hand BRA University a 5-1 win over Utkal University. Lucky Kumari (45') and Puja Kumari (58') were also on target as their teammate Muskan conceded an own goal in the 6th minute.
BRA Univeristy will play Adamas University in the final preliminary round match.
In the 15th match staged later at Main Stadium, Tripura University devastated Nagaland University 8-0 as Mousami hit a treble (6;, 14', 16') and Basanti netted twice (3', 44').
Anjali (5'), Kajalti (8') and Christina (28') also contributed a goal apiece in this one sided encounter to help Tripura University set up the next round clash with hosts NSU.
In the 16th match staged at SAI Takyel Ground number 4, Manipur University suffered a 0-1 loss to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherji University.
The lone goal that settled the game was scored by Soni Munda in the 39th minute of the match.
In the 17th match of the tournament, Burdwan University defeated Dibrugarh University 1-0 thanks to Arati's 33rd minute goal.
Burdwan University will play Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherji University in the final preliminary round.
In the 18th match of the tournament, Jamuna Mahato scored a brace (30', 51') after Pusparani Mahato's opener in the 2nd minute to give Sidho Kanho Birsha University a 3-0 win over Pt Ravishankar Shukla University.
They will play University of Calcutta in the next round.
The tournament is being organised under the auspices of Association of Indian Universities.
