IMPHAL, Nov 2: An order issued by BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda whereby the party’s former disciplinary action committee chairman and chief spokesman Chongtham Bijoy was expelled from the party for six years has been annulled by the Court of Civil Judge Junior Division, Imphal West-1.
The order issued by A Sharda on February 8, 2022 suspended Chongtham Bijoy’s primary membership of BJP for six years.
Challenging the party president’s order, Chongtham Bijoy filed a petition at the Court. Speaking to media persons at his Lamphel Khunou residence, Chongtham Bijoy said that he was cross-examined at the Court during he trial of the case which lasted for two years and eight months.
“I was asked whether the Prime Minister or the Union Home Minister can terminate or suspend the primary membership of any party (BJP) member arbitrarily. I replied that no party leader can terminate or suspend the primary membership of any member arbitrarily if the party has its own constitution”, Bijoy said.
The Court’s judgement has proved that no leader can run a political party in dictatorial manner if the party has its own constitution, he said.
Chongtham Bijoy said that he joined BJP in 1994.
At the moment, the party’s popularity has plummeted. This was testified by the results of the last Lok Sabha elections. A ruling party losing Lok Sabha election is a rare occurrence in Manipur, he said.
Saying that he would demand a huge compensation for maligning his image without any reason, Bijoy said that the compensation would be donated to CSOs who are working sincerely to bring an end to the current crisis.
He added that he would wait for response from the Prime Minister, the BJP National president, BJP North East in-charge and the BJP Manipur Pradesh president after sending certified copies of the Court’s judgement.
