Ibobi demands immediate intervention of Modi Mass resignation of MLAs warned

IMPHAL, Nov 17 : Former Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh on November 17 called for urgent intervention by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the escalating crisis in the State.
Speaking at a press meet, Singh lambasted the State and Central Governments for the complete collapse of Constitutional governance, citing unprecedented violence and a deteriorating law-and-order situation.
“The State is witnessing levels of turmoil we never expected. Even infants and women, irrespective of caste or religion, are being killed. This is highly condemnable and reflects the failure of governance at both State and Central levels,” he said. Singh stressed the need for immediate action, warning that further delays could lead to drastic political moves, including mass resignations by legislators from both the ruling and Opposition parties.
He appealed to Chief Minister N Biren Singh to urgently seek an appointment with the Prime Minister. “For months, we have been demanding a meeting with the Honourable Prime Minister to present Manipur’s case. If he continues to ignore us, we will have no choice but to take a final step. If the ruling and Opposition MLAs are not heard, what is the point of being members of the Assembly?” Singh said.
While expressing readiness to resign if it would help resolve the crisis, Singh said that such a step would only be taken as a last resort. “We were elected by the people to serve their interests. Resigning without reason would be irresponsible. However, if our resignation is the only way to bring peace, we are ready to step down anytime,” he said.
When questioned about calls for the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the imposition of President’s Rule, Singh clarified his position. “Demands for Biren Singh’s resignation are an internal matter for the BJP. As for President’s Rule, the people of Manipur do not support it. The current Government’s failure must be addressed through Constitutional means, not by imposing Central rule,” he said.
Singh further criticized the State’s leadership for its inability to control the situation. “This crisis is the direct result of governance failure. The Central and State Governments cannot shirk their responsibility,” he said.
The former Chief Minister also urged all political stakeholders to work collectively for a resolution. “This is not just about politics. It’s about the survival, dignity, and well-being of the people of Manipur,” he said.
Meanwhile,  CLP deputy leader K Ranjit has stated all the five Congress MLAs are ready to step down if it would serve public interest and they are told to do so by the people.
Taking due note of the report that some BJP MLAs have been mulling to resign, the Congress MLA appealed to the BJP MLAs to wait for some time.
“Let us use our position and power of being MLAs for the right purpose and at the right place before resigning en masse. Let us resign together after teaching a befitting lesson to the impervious and indifferent Government of India”, Ranjit said.
He decried that the Government still remains indifferent even after three minor children and three women were butchered in captivity.
He said that all the MLAs of both the ruling parties and the Opposition must go to New Delhi together and knock the Prime Minister’s door to highlight the people’s suffering and clamour for peace.
“If Narendra Modi does not give us an appointment,  we may all step down”, Ranjit said.
He also appealed to all the fellow MLAs to work together to prevent the genocide of Meiteis by Kukis who have been attacking Meitei people continuously from the surrounding hill ranges.
