Effigies of Modi, Shah, Biren burnt at Jiribam More residences of MLAs stormed

JIRI/IMP, Nov 17 : Tension remains high in Manipur over the killing of three women and three children including an infant of eight months as protesters  in Jiribam vandalised the offices of BJP and Congress in Jiribam's Babupara today.
The protesters also held a demonstration at Jiribam District Headquarters, during which effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Jiribam MLA Achab Uddin were burnt today.
The situation in Imphal also remains restive as protesters stormed the residences of legislators in Imphal today.
While irate mob burnt the house of Konthoujam AC MLA Dr Sapam Ranjan who holds the Health portfolio at Konthoujam Kangjeibung Maning last night at around 10, another group of protesters tried to storm the residence of Mayang Imphal AC MLA K Robindro today.
It is reported that the protesters burnt eight rooms of Dr Ranjan's house along with two two-wheeler vehicles and a water tanker truck after vandalising several furniture and other items inside the house.
A mob also attempted to storm the  residence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh at Heingang last night, triggering a major confrontation between security forces and the protesters.
Security personnel fired several rounds of tear gas shells, rubber bullets to disperse the protesters and foiled the attempt to damage the Chief Minister's house, reports Hindustan Times quoting officials.
Dr Ranjan was not at his house at the time of the attack.
Protesters also set ablaze the residences of MLAs P Brojen (Wangjing Tentha) at Wangjing Wangkhei, Y Radheshyam (Hiyanglam) at Langmeidong and U Deven (Wabagai) at Keirak Kangjeibung last night.
Meanwhile, protesters clashed with security forces at Mayang Imphal today as the former tried to storm the residence of Mayang Imphal MLA K Robindro today.
Reportedly, security personnel fired several rounds of tear gas shells, mock bombs and live rounds of bullets in the air to disperse a large number of people who tried to storm the residence of MLA K Robindro located at Mayang Imphal
The incident took place today at around 10.30 am when a large number of people marched toward the residence of the MLA located some 500 meters from Mayang Imphal police station on the northern side.
The protesters were stopped before reaching the residence of K Robindro by security personnel deployed at Mayang Imphal Bazar.
A heated argument broke out between the security forces and the protesters as the latter tried to get past the barrier.
The security forces fired rounds of tear gas shells and mock bombs toward the protesters as things got heated up.
The  protesters also pelted stones toward the security personnel.
One security personnel sustained injury on the head during the clash.
The security personnel, nonetheless, managed to disperse the protesters from Mayang Imphal Bazar toward Uchiwa and other places for a brief moment by firing tear gas shells and mock bombs.
More people came out in the afternoon and they pelted stones at the security personnel deployed at  Mayang Imphal Bazar.
The security personnel also fired rounds of live bullets to disperse the protesting people.
Later at around 3.49 pm, the protesters marched toward Mayang Imphal police station by raising their hands in the  air to hold a talk with the security personnel in connection with their demand.
The meeting continued till late in the evening but what was transpired during the talk could not be ascertained.
Meanwhile, a large number of women came out on roads disturbed vehicular movements in different parts of  the State.
Iron railings were used to block Tiddim Road at Sangaiprou and Kwakeithel.
The barriers along Tiddim Road were removed at around 2 pm after the protesters were dispersed by security forces by firing tear gas shells and mock bombs.
Normal traffic movement was also disturbed in different places of Imphal.
