IMPHAL, Nov 17 : Womenfolk of Khundrakpam have contended that the arson on the residence of their MLA Thokchom Lokeshwor by a group of armed miscreants yesterday was politically motivated and it has nothing to do with the crisis in Manipur.
Notably, Th Lokeshwar is an MLA of Congress party which only won five seats in the 2022 State Assembly election.
Speaking to the media at Sagolmang today, Sorokhaibam ongbi Bishwarani, secretary of Sagolmang Meira Paibi Lup, said that the armed miscreants also looted gold jewellery, cash and several other items from the house of the MLA apart from torching the house and some vehicles.
She said that the miscreants burnt one Tata Winger and one JCB and vandalised three other vehicles.
Apart from the vehicles and household items, Bishwarani claimed that 637 jackets, 1178 blankets, 870 mattresses and about 2000 clothes which were kept for distribution to people in relief camps and village volunteers were also destroyed in the fire.
Saying that there are certain people who scheme to exploit the unrest in Manipur and take political mileage out of it, she said that the people of Khundrakpam condemn the attack on the residence of their MLA.
Bishwarani said that Th Lokeshwor has been doing whatever he can for the wellbeing of the people taking refuge in relief camps.
She further stated that the armed miscreants who attacked the house of the Congress MLA also fired some rounds to intimidate the locals. She asked all concerned to clarify the motive behind the attack on the house of Lokeshwar.
Bishwarani, added that they  will ask Lokeshwar to resign as an MLA if all the Ministers and MLAs of the ruling parties also step down in the interest of Manipur.
