IMPHAL, Nov 17: The Jiri United Committee (JUC), Jiribam has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare those militants responsible for the brutal cold blooded murder of three minor children and three women in captivity as a terrorist organisation.
While the women were suspected to have been subjected to extreme sexual assault and torture, the head of one of the kids was severed while both arms of another kid were also severed.
In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister, the JUC pointed out that Chin-Kuki-Zo-Hmar militants have been consistently attacking Meitei villages in Jiribam using heavy bombs and sophisticated weapons resulting in the horrific killing of two innocent farmers, destruction of property and burning of over 90 houses over the past few months.
On November 11, 2024, armed Chin-Kuki-Zo-Hmar militants brazenly entered Jakuradhor village, Borobekra sub-division, Jiribam, in broad daylight and they burned two elderly villagers alive along with 16 houses after opening gun fire on CRPF personnel stationed in the area.
In this incident, six individuals including three women and three minors were abducted.
They were subjected to inhumane torture and sexual violence before being brutally killed.
Their lifeless bodies were discovered floating in a river five days later, the JUC recounted.
“We firmly believe that the imposition of the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA), 1958, in Jiribam district is not an effective measure to address the ongoing unrest. Therefore, it is requested to review and withdraw the said draconian Act”, the JUC said.
“We urge that the militants responsible for these heinous acts be officially declared as terrorists”, the JUC said.
It further demanded that Makha Basti, Jirimukh and Chhoto Bekra police outposts be upgraded immediately with full strength. The JUC also sought immediate and decisive intervention to arrest these Chin-Kuki-Zo-Hmar armed militants and ensure justice for the victims and their families.
“We also appeal for your proactive involvement to contain the escalating violence in Manipur and restore peace in the region”, the JUC added.
