IMPHAL, Nov 15 : The All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO) has questioned whether reimposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in the jurisdictions of Lamlai police station, Sekmai PS, Lamshang PS, Moirang PS, Jiribam PS and Leimakhong PS is driven by any motive to give a free hand to Kuki-Zo militants to unleash terror in Meitei areas and at the same time restrain village volunteers and the Meitei people from defending themselves.
Instead of bringing them back under AFSPA, the people of those places where AFSPA has been reimposed must be given a special package for they have suffered too long due to the Government’s policy failures, the AMUCO said in a statement.
Before reimposing AFSPA, Kuldiep Singh appointed by the Government of India as Security Advisor on May 4, 2023 who took over the reins of the Unified Command on May 28, 2023 should be sacked first for his abject failure to bring an end to the violent crisis.
Instead of declaring more places as disturbed areas, the Government must first focus on rescuing the women and children abducted by Kuki militants from Jakuradhor, Jiribam right under the nose of Central armed police forces, AMUCO asserted.
It asked whether reimposition of AFSPA in the jurisdictions of six police stations is a part of the Government of India’s policy to appease Kuki-Zo militants after the killing of 11 Kuki militants by CRPF at Jakuradhor Karong recently.
The Union Home Ministry’s recent move of declaring the jurisdictions of six police stations as disturbed areas has no sincere intention to bring the Manipur crisis to an end.
Rather, it is driven by a motive to let Kuki-Zo militants kill village volunteers and massacre Meitei people, it said.
The places where AFSPA  has been reimposed have been reeling under relentless attacks from Kuki-Zo militants. The Government of India is only multiplying the woes of these people by reimposing AFSPA, AMUCO remarked.
Contrary to the sustained efforts of AMUCO to safeguard the integrity of Manipur, several ethno-exclusive organisations have been shouting for fragmentation of Manipur under alleged influence of India, it said.
Before Manipur’s merger with India, people had no fear that Manipur would ever break apart. The current crisis is a result of the Kuki-Zo militant groups’ demand to create their own exclusive separate administration or Union Territory at the cost of the integrity of Manipur, it asserted.
But AMUCO will never change its resolute stand to fight all forces inimical to the integrity of Manipur, it reiterated.
The recent declaration of several places in the valley as disturbed areas is a highly partial and sectarian move of the Government of India.
As this move contradicts the people’s clamour for peace, AMUCO and the all the people vehemently condemn reimposition of AFSPA at places which were relieved of the infamous Act.
