Thang-Ta Day observed

IMPHAL, Nov 15 : Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) and the Thang-Ta Day Observation Committee observed Thang-Ta Day at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today.
Held under the theme "Thang-Ta for a unified Manipur", the event saw an impressive demonstration of the indigenous martial art form from over a thousand of students and Thang-Ta professional practitioners.
Speaking at the function as chief guest, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University of Culture (MUC) Prof Paonam Gunindro said that the initiative being taken up by KIMACS in promoting Thang-Ta is immense.
Saying that Thang-Ta now has been recognized as an optional subject at higher education levels, he added that the credit for the revival of Thang-Ta which was on the verge of extinction must goes to the Thang-Ta gurus who took up a commendable role to promote the martial art form.
Prof Gunindro went on to state that Thanga-Ta will remain inseparable with the Meitei community given its historical significance.
KIMACS president Ningthoujam Ajitkumar said that they have been observing Thang-Ta since 2019.
He said that today's Thang-Ta demonstration aimed at creating a sense of unity among the people.
Education (S) Director Dr L Nandakumar, YAS Director T Phulen Meetei and chairman of Thang-Ta Observation Committee Irom Ibomcha also attended the programme among others.
