IMPHAL, Nov 14 : The Manipur Squash Rackets Association vice president Kshetrimayum Sanahal has drawn the attention of the authorities concerned to install a standard squash court at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
The appeal was made during the felicitation programme of the State team who participated in the 3rd North East Zone Squash Championship in a simple function held this afternoon at Manipur Press Club.
Notably the championship was hosted by Assam in Guwahati from November 9 to 10 and Manipur's Waikhom Lingjenthoibi won a gold medal in the women's individual competition before settling for a silver medal in the team event along with Dolly Waikhom and PS Marilang.
The 6-player State team were led by S Victoriya as coach and Thongam Samananda as manager.
Linthoi earned a gold medal in the women's individual event as she defeated Adrika Devi of Assam 11-4, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7 in the final.
Speaking at the occasion, association vice president Sanahal lauded the achievement of the State athletes at the zonal competition.
Manipur Squash Rackets Association was founded in 2005 with the aim of promoting the discipline in the State. To draw interested athletes, the association has also been conducting coachings and State championships, he said.
Thanks to the effort of the association and dedicated athletes of the State,  the discipline has shown substantial growth in the last 19 years despite the absence of a standard court, he observed.
Manipur has seen emergence of very few private squash courts in the recent years and it has tremendously helped in boosting  the morale of the athletes towards taking up the discipline which has been a part of three National Games- 34th edition hosted by Jharkhand, 35th edition hosted by Kerala and 37th edition hosted by Goa last year, he said.
If the State Government and the Department concerned install a court at Khuman Lampak, the State players may further prosper and scale new heights in the regional, National and international tournaments in the near future, he said while urging the State Government and authorities concerned to consider their proposal for installation of a proper and standard squash court at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
