Court stays operation of order

IMPHAL, Nov 14: A Division Bench of the High Court of Manipur has stayed the operation of an order dated October 24, 2023 passed by Special Judge NIA transfering an original case of Porompat police station from the Special Court NIA Imphal to Special Court NIA Patiala House Court, New Delhi.
The order was passed by the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui in connection with an appeal case filed by Athokpam Kajit alias Keshorjit and 2 other against the National Investigation Agency (NIA) New Delhi and others.
Hearing the case, the Court observed that the original case records of Porompat PS were transferred from the Special Judge, NA Court, Imphal East, Manipur to Special Judge, NIA, Patiala House Court, Delhi without issuing notice to the appellants.
The Court then stayed the operation of the impugned order dated 24th October, 2023 till the next date of hearing.
The case is related to the arrest of five village volunteers including Moirangthem Anand Singh by police on September 16 from Kongba.
Moirangthem Anand Singh (45) was re-arrested by the NIA while the four others were released on bail by the Special Court NIA Imphal East Court on September 22 last year. Moirangthem Anand was taken to Delhi from Imphal on the same day.
